The Band

Musical style is always harder to explain than to listen out, but we'll go on and give it a try:

Every band can be put into categories, so we won't deny our roots and influences. Our music is a powerful fusion of classical Progressive Metal (Dream Theater, Symphony X, Redemption), Metalcore and Postcore (Unearth, All That Remains, Asking Alexandria, Parkway Drive) as well as modern Progmetal (Between the Buried and Me, Protest The Hero, Human Abstract, Opeth).

This Bermuda triangle combined with many more personal influences determine our music and give it this very own feel. Blyndfolds epicenter is between driving riffs, destructive breakdowns, virtuosic multi-voiced leads and solos, dreamy and epic parts, deep growls and emotional voices, complex songs and arrangements and diversity; all these elements derived from the past evolution of the band and turned out to be our characteristic elements.

Blyndfold is furthermore defined by their highly energetic and enthusiastic Live-performance, with maximal Power and action on and in front of the stage; be it in small venues in front of 70 fans, on the “Rock in den Ruinen” Festival in Dortmund or in front of 1300 people on the awarded concert after winning the worldwide Microsoft Bandcontest, Blyndfold Shows always feature high speed action, an inflaming effect and an active live show.

All band members have a considerable musical education on their instruments and years of experience live and in studio. Bene, Jan D., Flo, Borsti and Berit study music together on the university of Dortmund.

Besides Blyndfold, they have various other backgrounds from other ensembles (orchestras, jazz-combos, pop&rock bands or productions) from which they gathered miscellaneous experiences.

Bandhistory

The history of Blyndfold began with several different predecessor bands, in which Bene (Drums) and Jan D. (guitars) played together since 2004. The first noticeable climax was the band “Chapter5” (2008/2009), which already featured Flo on keyboards. Through various gigs and the self-produced “Ideas EP”, which sold over 250 copies, the band drew the attention of the local scene and press for the first time.
And the band moved on: The music should be more metal, and the progressive elements should be raised to new, unknown peaks. That's why Jan B. and Phil joined. The first line-up was complete and the change of style began.
In October 2009 the band rehearsed and recorded their first demos. After several gigs (including the popular “Rock in den Ruinen” Festival in Dortmund), the five musicians played in front of over 1,300 people in Darmstadt as the winner of the world-wide Microsoft Band Contest 2010 (on the German Partnerconference).
On the 5th of October 2010 the first studio-album “collide-o-scope”, completely self-produced, was released. The nine songs were mixed and mastered in the Sound of Steel Studios and run over 50 minutes. Two weeks after the release, the album already sold over 300 copies.
A new milestone was reached in March 2011, when the band decided to add a second guitar player in order to achieve a new level of complexity, power and sound (live as well as in studio). So Borsti joined the band. The band performs their “collide-o-scope” songs in new arrangements as well as several completely new ones, and continues their live shows since April 2011.
The 2011 demo record, once again mixed in the Sounds of Steel Studios, presents Blyndfold with their new sound and style.

In late 2011 Phil left the band, to make place for a new singer, that fits perfect into the music. After several auditions the guys decided to welcome Berit in the Blyndfold-family; she both sings very lyrical melodies and growls and shouts.

With this line-up Blyndfold is going to record new demos and hit the road again in 2012!
